What is a Virtual Field Trip?

A virtual field trip is an opportunity for students to participate in the exploration of a location or culture through reliable online sources.
Why Virtual Field Trips?

Although there is no complete substitute for experiencing a place or culture first-hand, students are still able to explore the world without the financial burden. Students are able to explore on their own as well as have guided help along the way if they need it. A well-planned virtual field trip can definitely accomplish some of the goals that you have for your students, without the drawbacks of a “regular” field trip like cost and transportation. The most important reason for taking a field trip in the first place is to the supplement the learning that is going on inside the classroom with a learning experience that is more interactive. The goals that are usually set for students are in the forms of objectives. The goals of any field trip should be about student learning and if a virtual field trip can accomplish that just as well as a “regular” field trip, why not?!
